So my brother, Brad Hatfield, does a CD with this guy, Jeff Meegan, who says he needs a vibraphone track for a Christmas CD. Turns out his other gig besides songwriting and gorgeous vocalizing is a rep for Balter mallets, and I have become a total Balter Mallet convert because of that chance meeting...

Tommy wrote a good hunk of the tunes on our CD’s.... The tune you’re hearing is one of them... We love Tommy’s energy, plus he owns a million bizarre wooden and metal things to beat on, and that comes in real handy with us...

Tom Miller lays down a mean steel drum line. We are tremendously jealous of Tom’s talent because he sight reads on pans, and we don’t know anybody who does that..... Tom composed quite a few tunes for the Mallet Band, and we like having him around. And he stills wears size 29 pants.

If you’ve found this site, you must be a mallet player or know something about it. The Mallet Band is a collection of San Francisco mallet players that utilize only mallet instruments and drums in our ensemble. We have one CD out called “Phone Call From Barcelona” and our newest one, “How Far Is It?” has just been released on iTunes and CDBaby. Members of “The Mallet Band” are Michael Hatfield, Tommy Kesecker, Tom Miller, Jim Munzenrider. (That’s Jim on the Salazar Bass marimba) Other members include Curt Moore, Gerry Grosz, Jon Eriksen and Piro Patton.
